It reads great when idling but as soon as I pick up speed and go to get on plane I lose signal. My boat won't really go that fast, only about 55 mph if I push it, so I don't think it's a speed problem.

I've placed the transducer on the right side of the transom and just above the bottom of the boat. I can't figure out if I need to raise the transducer or lower it below the bottom of the boat, I want to figure it out without having to go through trial and error with drilling holes in my boat The V has two strakes on the bottom of the boat both left and right and my transducer is sitting above the right side strake, could this cause a problem?

Maybe Lowrance could offer a suggestion for you or there's a pretty good forum for Lowrance issues on BBC. I've learned to live with mine for now. I found this website and it looks promising. I'm going to try some of their suggestions and see where I end up. Join Date Jan Location lexington, ky, fayette. Originally Posted by rustedhook. I find it's the angle it's mounted at.

I copied the below instructions from Raymarine. According to them the transducer should be a little below the hull. We have three transducers on our boat, one on the transom for a driver's fish finder, one shooting through the hull for a in dash flasher and one on the trolling motor. All work very well. Transom Mount Transducers As the name implies, transom mount transducers are installed on the boat's transom, directly in the water and typically sticking a little below the hull. The Lowrance Hook 7 is a fishfinder and chart plotter which is well made and for reliable fish finding and chart plotting performance.

The X means it has no contour mapping, only GPS plotting. For that reason, we are choosing to leave those models out of the review. The series comes in 5 sizes, ranging from the budget friendly 5 and 7 inch, to the big screen 9 and The 12 inch is very interesting, as no manufacturer has really offered up a cheap 12 inch fish finder before.

Mostly, the HOOK2 fish finders do not have some of the more advanced functions like networking, live mapping, and touchscreens. Have a look at some of the main differences compared to other models. Each Hook2 display is the new SolarMAX, which is more easily viewable in direct sunlight than ever before.

It is a long and narrow plastic skimmer transducer with a metal bracket. It has an open top housing that presumably keeps the cost to produce it low. In any case, it has all three sonar features you need to scan structure and then locate fish on that structure. Lowrance DownScan continues to produce some of the best sonar imaging of structure and clearest shots of bass on the market. Then you save those logs onto a blank MicroSD card.

Then you can upload those files to C-MAP Genesis Premium and generate contour maps, as well as vegetation and bottom composition maps. The SplitShot series comes in only 5, 7, and 9 inch sizes, ranging from a compact 5 and 7 inch great for kayak fishingto a widescreen 9 inch.

Watch Video. Watch video for Doc's explanation. Catching fish you see on side scan is tough since they can move before you get to them but I have a great example. I was fishing for walleye with spinners, worms and a bottom bouncer in the weeds. I thought I saw the jackpot in the red circle.

I moved the cursor over to the fish and created a waypoint on them. The green arrows point out the weeds. I then trolled through the waypoint in about 1 minute and caught a white bass. Not what I wanted since I was hunting walleyes for an upcoming tournament but a nice example of how to use side scan. Just another example on why down imaging helps sonar interpretation. The weeds look similar to fish. In this one the fish look like weeds.

Fishing Magazine. So far everything worked flawlessly. I was out yesterday on Erie walleye fishing and the unit worked perfectly until we were out for a couple of hours and pulled in the rods to move further west along the fence.

I pulled up the trolling motor and moved us with the main motor only hit about 32 mph cuz we were only going about a mile. The screen on the HDS went all yellow from top to bottom with the color line in the middle and some blue interference throughout the screen.

I just thought it was because we were moving at speed and figured it would go back to reading once we slowed down but it didn't. This is the first time I couldn't get a reading at that speed. When we stopped it still continued to read 2 ft and was all broken up solid yellow on the screen. I tried turning it off and back on but it didn't help. I visually looked at the transducer and it appeared ok, tight in the mount and looked to be the proper angle off the transom. I reached down and it felt ok too.

I checked the cable on the back of the unit and it was tight. I shut it down and turned it on several times and no help.

I made sure no other electronics were on like the bilge or livewell. I finally just shut it off for about 15 minutes and when I turned it on it worked fine for the next hour of trolling.

When we pulled up and headed back to the launch it again went all yellow at speed and wouldn't go back to normal when we slowed down. I didn't change any settings before it happened the first time and only tried adjusting the sensitivity manually and using the auto sensitivity with no effect.

I made the mistake of buying a eagle, lorance too I've run it with the motor before and it usually just clutters up with blue "noise" but still reads. This went all yellow and wouldn't read after I shut the motor off.Hachimo Started Thursday at AM. Shammski33 Started Wednesday at PM. Hachimo Posted 29 minutes ago. Kevin J Legg Posted 4 hours ago.

I have one, but have only used it once so far without a problem -- fingers crossed. Maybe disconnect it to try and force it to reset everything and then connect it again?

If all else fails, the head unit detaches from the wires and comes off the mount very easily, maybe you got a lemon and can return it quickly and easily? If still not working, call Lowrance for help.

There is a software update fr that particular unit I wonder if there is a correction for the problem embedded in it? Worth a shot if you haven't done it yet. I'm wondering if you inadvertently hit one of the simulation option buttons that is preventing you from going back to the operational mode I don't have one of these units just looking at the online manual Page Lowrance is known for their obtuse or absent directions by the way Just by chance, do you have a Micro SD card inserted into the unit?

If so, remove it and try reboot again. I have the same exact problem I dont know about you guys but for me to save up the cash to buy a "nice" unit took me all winter and spring It sounds as though there is something really wrong with the unit or the software. For that kind of money you deserve to have them make it right Good luck with it.

Lowrance sure doesn't seem to be the same company quality control wise as it was before they were taken over or bought out If you bought the unit at cabelas They will back you up. Had problems with my unit. Was replaced by them. Cabelas did tell me that this one is with the updated software and should be trouble free, and they were sorry for any inconveniences, if anything else goes wrong just bring it back. For me it's a 1.
