It features ability to embed Wi-Fi capabilities to systems or to function as a standalone application. Although all of them are based on ESP SoC they differ in on output pins, flash memory and antenna type.

Many engineers use these modules to setup a wireless communication between two applications. This module does not have complex circuitry or programming so using this module is very easy. We will construct a simple application circuit for understanding the module working. Subscribe to stay updated with industry's latest Electronics components and news. I also didn't manage to make the device work by following other's people steps. I hope that you will find this tutorial usefull. As promised, I made another instructable.

This is about much easier wireless comunication, the Bluetooth. I also used this in my car for a school project. Did you use this instructable in your classroom?

Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. To make everything work, you need to understand what each part does and what is the pinout for that part. I'll start with the ESP As shown in the picture, ESP has 8 pins, 4 in the row of 2.

The first pin on the top left is GND. I'm not going to use these pins, as they are not impirtant for the operation. The pin on the top right side is the RX pin and the pin on the lower left is TX. These are the pins for comunication. The main thing to remember is, that this device works with 3. Arduino or many USB to serial converters work with 5V.

The solution for this project is in the next step. I bought it from ebay to have a reliable USB to serial converter. I didn't noticed it when I bought this part, but when I got it I saw, that it has a jumper to switch the operation from 5V to 3.

This makes everything easy, as we can connect the two parts together as it will be shown in the later picture. If your device doesn't have this option, than I will tell you how to work with 5v devices in the next few steps. If you have any questions about the connections or that your part isn't working, write in the comments :. As you have already noticed, those 8 pins of the ESP are not breadboard friendly.

So that's why I made an adapter with female and male headers. I hope that the pictures describe it well. The pictures are showing the final resault. In them I put videos every week of microcontrollers, arduinos, networks, among other subjects. Add Teacher Note. The ESP comes in many models with different functionalities.

The ESP is a small WiFi module built around the ESP chip that can connect your microcontroller to the internet wirelessly for a very small cost. It can be a great option for Internet of Things IoT projects, but can be difficult to work with for beginner hobbyists who do not have prior experience with the module.

In this tutorial, we hope to show you how to interface the ESP with an Arduino and perform some basic functions like connecting it to a WiFi network. The first feature to notice about the ESP is its awkwardly spaced header pins. For prototyping, I chose to just use jumper wires.

Figure 2. VCC : Connection to 3. Note that the maximum voltage input for the ESP is 3. Any input voltage greater than 3. Use the following diagram to connect the ESP module to the Arduino:. Figure 3. A couple of features of this circuit stand out immediately. First, the ESP module is powered by a 3.

esp8266mod pinout

As described earlier, the ESP has a maximum voltage input rating of 3. Using a power supply rated higher than this recommended 3.

Since the Arduino will be powered by the USB connection to the laptop, creating a common ground essentially creates a common reference you can think of it as a baseline to compare voltages and thereby interpret digital high and low signals. Second, the receive RX line for the ESP module is connected to the output of a resistor voltage-divider circuit.

We do this to shift the serial communication logic level the highs and lows of the digital signals that make up the serial communications from a logic high of 5 volts on the Arduino to a logic high of 3. Again, the ESP is specified with 3. After you have made all the hardware connections, upload the following sketch to the Arduino. We will be using the Arduino Serial Monitor both to send commands to the module and to view responses that it sends back! My module came set at BAUD out of the box.

Because we are going to use SoftwareSerial to communicate with the module, we can slow the BAUD rate down to to ensure reliable communication. Now we can view and configure settings on the ESP as we like. To do this, we must send a specific string command that the module can interpret and respond to. Typing in the string into the Serial Monitor and hitting enter produces this result! So here is the other pins. NodeMCU has weird pin mapping. We have constants defined to make using this board easier:. These are defined here. First of all thanks for all your work, without that I could not do this small project on university.

I have a newbie question, but first I show you my small code:. The code it's very incomplete at the moment, but the idea it's to create a flow meter, where I can get information from the flowmeter into a pin of the nodemcu, I'm using the pin "D2", but I'm not sure if this is correct.

Do I have to initialize this variables in my code? At the moment I only get 1's an 0's on Arduino Ide serial monitor.

esp8266mod pinout

So when I send some air or water throught the flowmeter, the info on the monitor changes from zero to one, repeatedly. At the moment you just display each pulse separately The advantage of using the define commands is that they use up no memory in the compiled sketch. Feel free to strip out the comments as well. That leaves just 3 pins unassigned D0, D1 and D4.

Www kya ladkiya mud marti h

Not much to play with. Now on to reliability testing There are a couple ways to do this: either define D0 thru D8 as integer variables and initialize them to the GPIO pin numbers, or my favorite way use the C pre-processor command define as shown below:. When you compile your code the pre-processor will go thru and substitute in "16" wherever there is a "D0". So, Arduino users don't have to worry about looking up GPIO pin numbers and such, just define it one time and include it in their source file.

The examples you gave shown again below do not look like Arduino "C" code unless there is some kind of library where a gpio object has been defined and it includes a "mode" member function.

Try to compile this version. I believe it will work. Hopefully this will put you on the right track. I expected by instruction gpio. I did notice that if I reset the board, I would also have to lift these 2 pins in order to get it to boot up. Now, I can understand why using RX might mess up downloads or reboots as it is being used to receive data from the PC, but I'm clueless why D8 would also cause this problem.

So, that just leaves 3 unassigned GPIO lines pins. To live with what we got, I can offer a few suggestions. You can use "port expander" chips which are essentially serial-to-parallel shift registers with latched outputs classic example: 74HC I2C seems to be the most efficient option in terms of pins used.

So, having good software development skills is essential to get at the full potential of these devices. What are these pins used for? I don't really know.
